  • Twitter for Mac Has Super Secret Preference Menu | Cult of Mac
If you’ve previously purchased a MacHeist bundle, just click on the help menu for Twitter for Mac, hold down the control, option and command keys, enter your MacHeist bundle number and behold the revelation of a secret menu option which gives you access to a whole load of super secret preferences… many of which are fairly useless, but hey, still neat.

  • Speaking of Emacs... - O'Reilly Mac DevCenter Blog
They didn’t put the Mac in Emacs for nothing. (Dear Usual Pedants: I am aware that Emacs predates the Mac. This is an attempt at wit. A bad one, I’ll give you.) Did you know that you could use Emacs navigation keys in TextEdit? And Terminal? And many other Cocoa apps? They all work the way you’d expect. Well, at least mostly. In TextEdit, ^N and ^P go to the beginning and end of word-wrapped paragraphs, not just lines.

    With a key reference guide...

  • SamRayner.com // Changing the Boot Camp Drive Icon
After partitioning my iMac’s boot volume to accommodate Windows, I wished there was a way to differentiate between the two icons at a glance in Finder and on my desktop.

Unfortunately, changing the icon for an NTFS formatted volume isn’t as easy as just copying one across. There was a step by step guide to doing it on the OnMac Wiki though, so I went ahead creating an alternative.

  • How-To: Expand Wake On Demand Support Under OS X 10.6
Wake On Demand is a relatively new feature that arrived with Snow Leopard. It allows your Mac to be put into sleep mode and then be woken up on demand when one of its services is required. This feature requires a compatible Apple AirPort Base Station (or Time Capsule) and OS X 10.6 running on the Mac. Most of the standard system services (File Sharing, Screen Sharing, Scanner & Printer Sharing etc.) will work automagically with this setup, but custom services such a my subversion and the built-in web sharing do not. However it’s not hard to make these services compatible with Wake On Demand with only a little bit of work to set it up. Here’s how I did it.

Xplage is a software utility that listens on an IP network for UDP datagrams representing the geographical coordinates of the simulated flight path of an instance of the X-Plane® flight simulator, then transforms them into a series of continuously updated KML files that Google Earth® can ingest to create “moving map” displays.

Fairmount is a free tool which allows on-the-fly decryption of DVD content for convenient access. Fairmount does not perform the actual decryption, it simply forwards the data to VLC Media Player, which is used for the decryption. Hence, VLC Media Player must be installed for Fairmount to work.
